Surviving an Active Shooter in School
The School Safety and Active Threat Response course equips learners with practical, school-focused strategies to prevent, assess, and respond to violent threats. Through scenario-based instruction, learners examine threat indicators, de-escalation communication, preparedness planning, and response actions during an active incident. Emphasis is placed on prevention, mindset, coordination with law enforcement, and informed decision-making to enhance safety for students, staff, and school communities.

Where this program can lead
- Identify triggers, indicators, and risk factors associated with school-based threats
- Apply prevention strategies, including forming and operating a threat assessment committee
- Use effective communication techniques to de-escalate volatile situations
- Evaluate school environments for safety readiness and alert systems
- Implement appropriate response actions during an active threat, including evacuating, hiding, and barricading
- Assess decision considerations related to last-resort defensive actions and personal mindset under crisis
